Living In Harbour Isle Hutchinson Island FL

I have a beautiful condo listed in Harbour Isle West that has a garage, is turnkey furnished and has great views of the Fort Pierce Inlet.  You can see it here.  I'd love to sell it.  But that's not the reason for this post.  Well, the reason for this post is to tell you all about Harbour Isle and the area, which in turn helps me sell this condo :-).  But I'd love to share what I know because I lived there and it's such a wonderful place to live!

My husband and I moved there in Sep 2010 and rented a penthouse (4th floor) with wonderful views of the marina out the Florida room and the inlet from our front balcony.  We lived on the east side, but both communities have the same floorplan and amenities.  The east side has 288 units and the west side has 600 units.  Each building has 4 floors and 6 units on each floor.  There are 12 buildings on the east side and 25 buildings on the west side.  The clubhouse house on the west side is a bit larger as is the pool.

First of all, the condos are 1989 SF under air and have 10' high ceilings.  These are the largest condos you'll see just about anywhere in FL for the price.  They're beautifully appointed with granite, tile kitchen, baths, laundry and Florida room.  There's an eat-in kitchen plus a formal dining area.  You'll also enjoy two living areas.  There's a nice sized room off the laundry for an office or small bedroom set for extra company.  All units have 2 bedrooms and 2 baths.  The master bedroom has two large walk-in closets and a bath you can "hold a dance in" it's so spacious.  There's a large soaking tub, two large vanities and separate shower.

When we asked the agent who had our rental listed what it was like living there (he also lived on the east side), he said it was like living in a resort.  Well, it certainly lived up to that!  The community is beautifully landscaped in tropical plants and palm trees and is well maintained.  The lagoon style pool with tropical landscaping interspersed around it really does make you feel as if you're in a tropical resort.  The inside of the clubhouse is tastefully decorated in Tommy Bahama style furnishings.  The west side has a pool table in their clubhouse.  There's a kitchen in each clubhouse for social gatherings.

The full gym at one end of the clubhouse is all you'll need for your daily workout - except in the winter when lots of people are out cycling, walking and running throughout the community and out along Seaway Dr and the inlet.  There are tennis courts and a bocce court, bar-b-que grills and picnic tables for dining al fresco as well as tables under the covered porch to dine.  There are a number of garages on each side (not one for every unit, but a good number) that one can own.  They hold a car or small boat.  There is also a marina to dock your boat.  It is run separately from the two communities with its own dockmaster.

On the island is a small grocery store with pretty much anything you'd need.  There's also a small hardware store and he makes spare keys there.  Downtown is my favorite hardware store, Ace, on Ave A just east of US 1.  There are lots of good local restaurants on the island:  Chucks Seafood that's within walking distance of Harbour Isle, Dave's Diner, a new Thai restaurant just down from Dave's, The Inlet, Manatee Island, Square Grouper, Hurricane Grill (the original one), Bluewater Beach Grill, Inlet Grill and Archie's.  Both Chuck's and Archie's have been on the island just about forever.  There is also a restaurant at Ocean Village that's open during the season but the name escapes me at this moment.

Then you have a number of restaurants off island/downtown to enjoy:  12A-Bouy, Captains Galley (breakfast and lunch only), 2nd St Bistro, Cobbs Landing, the Original Tiki, 121 Tapas, Crazy Fish, Bangkoks, Lorenzo's, Pepper Thai, and the Orange Bloom.  Be sure to get the Enjoyment Book and the St Lucie County School book (at the Seven Gables House on Indian River Blvd next to the Manatee Center) for discounts on many of these local restaurants.

All that being said, I would say the thing we loved most about living at Harbour Isle were the wonderful neighbors.  We never felt compelled to socialize - people will leave you be if that's what you like.  But our neighbors were all upbeat and absolutely loved living there.  There wasn't a time I spent at the pool or a social event that I didn't hear someone say how grateful and lucky they felt to be living in such a wonderful place.

And speaking of social events, both sides of Harbour Isle have an active social committee planning many fun things for the residents to take part in.  We had mah jong and poker several days a week at the clubhouse, ladies exercises classes several mornings a week, annual gambling trips to Hard Rock Cafe, monthly socials, parties at most holidays, a ladies tea and fashion show in the spring, murder mystery theaters and bocce leagues.  Rarely did we see anyone playing tennis and too bad because they are Har Tru courts.

June 1st, we bought a single family home in an 55+ community that's a tad less expensive and that has more activities for my retired hubby.  But we've sorely missed our many friends at Harbour Isle.  We just had dinner with 3 other couples last weekend which caused us to reminisce about the community.  I decided to put that into a post and share with those considering a move there.

To wrap up this rather long post, if you're looking for an active and fun lifestyle, living in a community that feels more like a tropical resort than just a condo, you will definitely want to check out Harbour Isle.  I can show you any condo listed for sale there (in addition to my own in building 35, unit 203.  Let me know how I can help and I'll get right to work!
